Texans Will Fight for Immigrant Worker Rights

The Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride (www.iwfr.org) has organized 18 busses and around 900 riders to cross the United States on nine routes through 73 cities. They will demand rights for immigrant workers. Houston will originate one of the routes. Two busses that leave Los Angeles on September 23 will go thorugh El Paso on September 26, then San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas. On September 28 in the early morning, they will continue for Memphis.

Each of the Texas cities has a committee working on logistics, media, fund raising, and everything else needed to push for immigrant rights. North Texas' committee has information at www.jwj.8k.com In early August, a national planning meeting took place in Chicago. Top union leaders joined immigrant workers at a picket line at the Congress Plaza Hotel there.
