TSU Rally to Expose Police Brutality
When: Saturday, February 7 @ 9:00am
Where: At the corner of Tierwester and Cleburne
On February 7 a coalition of area activists led by End Mass Incarceration Houston
, NBPP and Alianza Mexicana
will challenge the police as they attempt to manipulate public opinion at TSU and try to convince the uninformed that they are a benefit to The People. The truth is that the police DO NOT serve and protect The People; the police serve and protect a system which increasingly denies The People their Right to Dignity, their Right to Respect, to Economic Opportunity and the Right to Life itself.
Police murder, legal injustice and mass incarceration all have a common denominator; a system which favors the rights of property over the rights of humanity. This system destroys poor and working class communities while upholding laws enacted to make the wealthy even more wealthy. The US government is controlled by money and administered by a corrupted political bureaucracy. The police are their first line of defense against any meaningful change. The time for change is NOW...join us as we stand up and speak up against police murder.

Hate Crimes Town Hall Meeting
When: Sunday, February 8 @ 2:00pm
Where: 401 Branard St, 2nd Floor, Houston, Texas 77006 (The Montrose Center)
Listening session on hate crimes and anti-LGBT bias in Houston. According to the FBI's most recent hate crimes statistics, Houston law enforcement agencies reported a total of five hate crimes targeting lesbian, gay or bisexual individuals for all of 2013, and zero hate crimes against transgender persons. You're saying, "What? How can that be?" In a city of over two million people and a large LGBT population, such low numbers suggest that actual hate crimes are likely being dangerously under reported. In order to learn directly from Houston's LGBT community about bias crimes in Houston, the Matthew Shepard Foundation and the Montrose Center will be hosting a Town Hall meeting. This is a listening session. No law enforcement personnel will be there. We are committed to provide a safe space for those in attendance. https://www.facebook.com/events/1401779233456255
