United Steel Workers on Strike at Houston Refineries


Where: USW Local Union Halls, Pasadena TX 

Details:  Two Houston area union locals are striking area oil refineries as part of nationwide bargaining for safer conditions.  Anyone who wants to promote the cause of labor, safer working conditions, and a cleaner environment by helping out during this strike with picketing or donations please contact one of the following United Steel Workers local union halls: Texas City local 13-1, south hall (striking Marathon Oil); Pasadena local 13-227, 704 Hwy 225 East,713-385-2168 ; Pasadena local 13-1, 311 S. Pasadena Blvd., striking Shell Oil, 832-517-9311.  Call for the location of picketing.  Even though you are not a Steelworker, the mere existence of labor unions helps all workers avoid declines in their living standards.

"We Need to Talk About ALEC" - Documentary Screening

Details:  "We Need To Talk About ALEC" - a short documentary that covers the events of the ALEC conference in July 29 - August 1, 2014 and the Stand Up to ALEC activist events that ran concurrent with the ALEC conference is screening on Saturday March 7 in Houston in the 6:30 - 8pm shorts block.  The film will screen as part of VideoFest Comes to Houston at 14 Pews, 800 Aurora Street in the Houston Heights (5PM-9:30PM), highlighting some of the best works of the recent Dallas festival. Admission is $10, FREE beer from Saint Arnolds, FREE appetizers from Onion Creek/Dry Creek. Special guest filmmakers will be in attendance.
