Texans Oppose Detention Center
On June 23, buses from all the major Texas cities converged on Taylor, Texas, to oppose the immigrant detention center known as the Hutto Facility. Over the past months, facts have emerged about the treatment of children and other immigrants that have broght considerable concern to progressive Texans.
It is noteworthy that, in spite of tremendous pressure, Texas labor has held strong on the immigrants rights issue. Both the Texas AFL-CIO and the "Change to Win" unions have continued to stand up for immigrants rights and continued to try to help them win better lives through organization. Only through organization of all workers, documented and undocumented, can we force wages and benefits to rise!
