KKK to Rally for Proposition Two

The Dallas newspaper has announced that the Ku Klux Klan plans a rally in Austin in favor of the anti-gay Proposition 2. They set their event 1-3 PM near the City Hall. Counter-demonstrators plan to gather at 1 PM at Auditorium Shores, South 1st Street and Riverside Drive. Afterward, they will hold a vigil from 1:30 to 3 PM on the First Street Bridge. They invite all Texans to join them. Information is available at http://www.nononsenseinnovember.com/nonviolence/nonviolence.php.

Proposition 2 purports to ban homosexual marriages, although the actual wording would prohibit the State of Texas from recognizing any union "identical to marriage." Opponents of the proposition, which includes most progressive organizations and the Texas AFL-CIO, say that the proposal actually would change nothing because homosexual marriages are already prohibited by Texas law. Because of the curious grammar used, Proposition 2 might actually create mayhem with existing unions, including man-woman unions. Political experts note that similar proposals have been used in several other states in order to energize the bigot vote.

The participation of the noxious Ku Klux Klan on the "pro" side is helping Texans see the issue more clearly.
