Dallas Saying: "Out of Afghanistan!"
By Jim Lane
DALLAS – The Dallas Peace Center has set a weekly vigil across from the Earle Cabell Federal Building, 1100 Commerce in the downtown area. Roger Kallenberg was the first to arrive on July 2, but Hadi Jawad arrived soon after. Both of them have been stalwarts of the local peace movement for decades. Jawad brought banners and signs reading “Out of Afghanistan,” “Fire the War Policy,” and “Stop the Cycle of Killing!”
Very quickly, a good group of activists assembled. A young Mennonite Pastor and a student from one of the nearby universities were being introduced around, but everybody else were longtime peace veteran warriors. Organizer Jawad assured the group that similar small but determined activities are taking place in every major city of the world.
Organizers plan to keep up the weekly vigils every Friday at 11:30 AM until the U.S. occupation ends.
